Play for Planet

A group of people smiling and laughing as they act out roles in a larg hall

Play for Planet is a free space for people who work or volunteer on the planetary crisis (or want to!) and would like to playfully explore questions and problems in this area.

There are no aims. No outcomes. No KPIs. Just play. Joy. And exploration.

Each month, attendees will choose a question to collectively explore using a different playful, joyful or creative practice.

Questions might look like: How do we personally sustain ourselves for the work? How do we encourage people to take action? How do we combat polarization in our society?

Techniques might look like: Drawing, drama, plasticine, storytelling with dice and more!

Though we hope useful insights will emerge, the only way to fail is by not having fun!

Attendees are welcomed to stay on after the event for lunch and chat at the lovely Cibomatto Canteen. (Please note, attendees have to pay for their own lunch but the canteen is very affordable.)

About

The events are free and unticketed but I’d be grateful if you could drop an email to futuremancy@gmail.com to let me know you’re attending. If you have any access needs please email them as far in advance as possible to give me a chance to properly accomodate them. The venue has an accessible loo, step free access and Disabled parking.

Play for Planet is run without funding and on an entirely voluntary basis by Emma Geen. She is very grateful to Bricks for kindly donating use of the space. Donations towards running the events are welcome (but not at all expected!).

Though all ages (including babies) are welcome, the events aren’t designed to entertain children. There are toys in the living room area that childern can play with while you take part, though you will be responsible for your child.

February 2026

Date: 21st Feburary, 11am-1pm

Venue: St Anne’s House, Living room space next to Cibomatto Canteen.

For our first session in February we will seek wisdom by consulting the cards… the wise, mystical cards of Dixit!

For those who don’t know, Dixit is a beloved French boardgame based around beautiful and deeply imaginative illustrated cards. They are often used by creatives to facilitate reflective thought and conversations by sparking associations and ideas through their whimsical images.

Why Play?

Society might relegate play to children, but science has shown that play has many important benefits for all ages. These include supporting:

  • Wellbeing – play has a powerful ability to support nervous system regulation, improving health and building personal resilience in the face of difficult work.
  • Connection – play can connect people across differences, building community and easing conflict.
  • Creative problem solving – play supports people to come at problems from unique angles, creating solutions that are unlikely to be discovered through other means.
